We met up with Master Distiller Richard Paterson for a distinguished tasting of the Dalmore 45 at the Nomad Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. When we got the invitation, we couldn’t resist…it’s not every day that you get to hang out with a master distiller. The Nomad Hotel is downtown Los Angeles newest addition. It reminded us of its New York counterpart with its high vaulted ceilings, classic decor and velvet covered arches.
The Dalmore 45 was just launched this month (April 2018) and it priced at $12,500. Poured from a Baccarat decanter, it has royal silver from Scotland on the bottle. The taste is a rich heavy, port wine finish, a cognac style scotch. You can taste the soft elegance that only age can bring.
Additionally, reinforcing the distillery’s reputation for curating only the most exquisite casks, The Dalmore Port Wood Reserve is also being released this year. This exquisite whiskey has been purposefully retained at 46.5% ABV to complement the enticing warm flavors of the port. Beginning its journey in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and finished using Tawny Port Pipes from the Douro region of Portugal, the end result it a sumptuous and layered whiskey with notes of crushed almonds, cinnamon, ginger and citrus. The Dalmore Port Wood Reserve will be available nationwide for $99 beginning in March.
Master Distiller Richard Paterson ensures that each marque is blended and aged to perfection. His influence over both the blending and the aging process results in an extensive flavor palette which The Dalmore takes great pride in. Considered the greatest whiskey maker of his generation, Richard Paterson is admired across the globe for his passion and innovative flair when it comes to whiskey making and one of the reasons why The Dalmore is regarded as the apex of the whiskey category.
