Setorii Pond and I were invited to the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club for an intriguing lesson in honor of the prestigious Silver Cup. The Silver Cup is one of the oldest and respected polo tournaments in the US, drawing a sophisticated crowd of polo enthusiasts.
Maserati along with La Martina are the title sponsors of the tournament. La Martina is the official supplier of clothing/polo gear for the Maserati Team. The two iconic brands collaborated to launch a capsule collection designed exclusively for the 2015 Polo Tour.
The competition starts on September 3rd and goes til Labor Day. Maserati will showcase its 2015 lineup including its flagship Quattroporte super sedan and Maserati Ghibli sport sedan, alongside its signature GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible models.
We drove a convertible Maserati GranTurismo up to the Santa Barbara Polo Grounds. It was a perfect day to have the top down.
When we arrived, we were introduced to our polo instructor Malcolm Borwick. Malcolm is one of England’s best polo players and has trained Prince William & Harry. He is also a Royal Salute Ambassador.
We met some of the players on the Maserati Team.
This is the prestigious Silver Cup, one of the most sought after awards.
Malcolm taught us about the four ways to hit the polo ball. We started by practicing on the field without the horses.
Jetset Enzo, the official Destination Luxury mascot, watched us from afar next to a La Martina helmet.
Check out these La Martina boots – incredible craftsmanship.
Once we mastered our swings, we played a chukker (1 period of polo) on foot.
It was fun to chase the ball and run around the field!
After the game, we had a wonderful lunch.
After lunch we got on horses and hit the ball. Malcolm taught Setorii the basics of polo as she wore a dress.

After the lesson, the Maserati went up against a horse. No surprise, the Maserati won.
La Martina has over 85 stores and produces some of the highest quality polo accessories, boots and outfits.
Always so stylish…
