Lisbon is a region in Portugal which over the last 10 years become one of the most popular golfing destinations in Europe. Lisbon, unlike other destinations, doesn’t only offer superb golf courses but you also get a real taste of the wonderful culture of Portugal and perfect to find the very best golf holidays.

Praia D’El Rey to the North of Lisbon has gathered considerable praise and has put the region firmly on the golfing map. The new West Cliffs course has had some amazing feedback from the clients of Golf Holidays Direct this year. The Praia Del Rey resort is a golfers paradise with two beautiful links golf courses on your doorstep. The two courses offer a test of golf for all abilities and a firm favourite amongst our golf enthusiasts.

The best ranked courses in Lisbon are Troia, Oitavos Dunes and Praia D’El Rey. Troia is located in the stunning Troia peninsula and a legendary championship courses. The difference with Troia is that it must be accessed by Ferry. Oitavos Dunes has been the host of four Portuguese Opens and ranked in the top 20 European Golf Courses. Praia D’el Rey was names leading golf resort in Europe in 2010 and their new project the West Cliffs course will likely retain their title in years to come and perfect for my golf travel.

Along the shoreline are dotted sublime fishing villages and towns like Cascais and Estoril. One of my personal favourite hotels is the 5* Palacio Estoril which is located in the heart of Estoril just a 2 minute walk from the beach. The 5* Palacio Estoril offers a rich heritage in 1930’s James Bonde style. The Casino from the famous Casino Royale Bonde Film is adjacent to the hotel in short walking distance. For avid golfers the hotel offer a complimentary transfer to the Estoril Golf Course which is a class golf course with plenty of character and quality You can also walk along the coast into the vibrant town of Cascais within 20 minutes. The walk is very pleasant overlooking the coast with some bars and restaurants en-route for a pleasant light bite of refreshment. Cascais is a much more vibrant town with a wide variety of bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs.

You can get direct flights from the majority of UK airports to Lisbon with budget airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways. Our advise is that you stay in a town such as Estoril or Cascais to experience the genuine Portuguese culture.
