Long-time Los Angeles resident Pascale Rothman has given us her list of her top ten restaurants in Los Angeles.
Philanthropist, entrepreneur and CEO of UEvolution Mind and body Sculpting, Pascale Rothman created her unique and exclusive boutique health and wellness fitness center and spa in Downtown Los Angeles as a place of empowerment. “One day it dawned on me that we needed a new kind of gym; one that not only got you in shape on the outside, but on the inside, too.” UEvolution is meant to inspire each member to reach a healthy synthesis of nutritious eating, maximized fitness, inner wellness, as well as outer awareness of the community at large.
Highly dedicated to her humanitarian efforts, Ms. Rothman commits her free time raising funds and awareness for several local and International charities including: CAST LA, The Coalition to Abolish Human Trafficking and Slavery, The Midnight Mission’s Health and Wellness Program and Project LACE, Loving Abandoned Children Everywhere. Last year, she also opened O Asie, the first Southeast Asian restaurant in Bastia, Corsica and she is currently working on expanding to several restaurant locations throughout Corsica. 1. BESTIA
Located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, the Italian offerings by Executive Chef Ori Menashat are quite simply and sublime. Make sure and reserve well in advance for dinner as they are booked solid, and do not skip dessert.
2. SUSHI GEN
Unquestionably, the very best sushi in Los Angeles–Located in Little Tokyo, if you are looking for designer rolls, dripping in eel sauce, then this is not the right place for you. Sushi Gen is simple and traditional, serving the very highest quality of fish that I have ever tasted.
3. THE BAZAAR BY JOSE ANDRES
The Bazaar is quite simply a magical experience. Specializing in “Molecular Gastronomy”, the Spanish tapas exceeds whimsical gourmet. Try their version of a “Philly Cheesesteak”, the “Not Your Everyday Caprésé” and the LN2 Caipirinha which is frozen table side with liquid nitrogen, creating a cocktail that you can eat with a spoon.
4. MELISSE
I grew up in Paris, and Melisse is by far my favorite French cuisine restaurant in town. The service is impeccable and they provide a curated pre-fix menu which will simply take your breath away. If you are looking for a place to go for a very special occasion, then look no further as Melisse is it.
5. THE FACTORY KITCHEN
Another Italian addition to Downtown Los Angeles with truly sensational food. Their pasta dishes are extraordinary and the 24 month aged Parma prosciutto with lightly fried sage dough and stracciatella cannot be missed!
6. MATSUHISA
If the preparation of Japanese food is an art form, then Chef Nobu is unquestionably Picasso. The plating of his magnificent food is as beautiful as the taste; Matsuhisa is an experience not to be missed.
7. ALMA
Another addition to the Downtown Los Angeles foodie scene, Alma offers a pre-fix tasting menu inspired by ingredients grown in their own garden. Chef Ari Taymor offers seasonal farm to table New American fare which is absolutely mind-blowing.
8. PAICHE
I live in Marina Del Rey, and Paiche is for sure my favorite spot in my neighborhood. It is Peruvian Izakaya, specializing in an assortment of incredible sashimi style ceviches and Peruvian fare. Delicious!

10. EGG SLUT
Egg Slut was formerly a roaming LA food truck that now has a counter at the Grand Central Market. They only offer a handful of egg based breakfast sandwiches and their signature “Slut”, which is a coddled egg on top of creamy potato purée, poached in a glass jar. Sooooo good!
