On Saturday, September 16th at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, stars from across the pond (the cast of The Crown) and even those representing otherworldly locales (“Stranger Things” and “Westworld”) showed up en masse to celebrate the Emmy Awards, slated for the next afternoon with tea, cucumber sandwiches, and champagne.
The event was supported by Presenting Sponsor BBC America and Premier Partner the GREAT Britain Campaign.
Typically ridiculously hot weather-wise, this year was beyond pleasant – a balmy 75 degrees and perfect for a tea party that showcased some of the biggest stars around including the cast of “Transparent,”, “This is Us,” and more. But it wasn’t just the Hollywood crowd – also in attendance were Charles, 9th Earl Spencer and his wife Countess Karen Spencer – the Earl being the brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
Subsequent big winner on Emmy night, the Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale” was fully represented as well, with director Kate Dennis, and actors Ann Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, and O-T Fagbenle.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) celebrated Emmy weekend with their annual TV Tea Party. Launched in 2003, the TV Tea Party is one of the most prestigious events in the annual awards calendar. The 2017 Tea was held the Saturday afternoon prior to The Primetime Emmy Awards and celebrated excellence in television by honoring this year’s nominees from the UK, US and beyond. Emmy awards Nominees, celebrities, BAFTA members, and leading television executives enjoyed traditional British tea and scones and cocktails, as BAFTA Los Angeles raised awareness and support for its Access for All campaign, a commitment to ensuring that talented individuals are offered a clear pathway to careers in the entertainment industry, uninhibited by background, demographics or personal circumstance. The campaign also includes scholarship, education, and community initiatives, allowing the organization to discover, support and nurture talented professionals.
