Kicking off the Fall 2015 Season, the 3rd Annual ‘Show Us Your Style’ Challenge was held on Wednesday the 2nd of September at the Beverly Center, Beverly Hills, California.

Invited to participate in the Challenge were 12 of LA’s trendiest contemporary fashion and style bloggers; with a budget of $250, contestants were required to shop at the Beverly Center and feature a ‘Fall Look’, inspired by their own personal style and aesthetic, for the chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree.

Hosted by Los Angeles Magazine’s Style Editor, Linda Immediato, guests were treated to free fashion illustrations of themselves by FIDM fashion designers and entertained with Style Commentary and Judging by Nick Verreos (Celebrity Fashion Designer and Project Runway participant), Jacey Duprie (Editor of travel and lifestyle blog Damsel in Dior), and Dani Song (digital media influencer and fashionista blogger).

Nick Verreos

Nick: “I started blogging 9 to 10 years ago when I was on a little show called Project Runway, Season 2. There was so much happening to me and I wanted to put it down in like a diary so that I could look back and see what I did. I loved figure skating costumes and somebody said that I should write about it – I would normally get around 500 people and all of a sudden I had 5 000 then 20 000 and I was like ‘are you kidding me?! This is what you want to read?’ I got to know what people liked but then at the same time I thought ‘oh jeez, now I’ve got to keep writing about figure skating costumes….’

I think the Fall Trends will definitely include ‘marsala’ color of the year, wine reds, deep grapes. But I’m also interested in black and white and graphic colors – don’t be shy when wearing colors in Fall. Also, influences from the Near and Far East – I was highly influenced by ‘The Orient Express’ for my ‘Envy Collection’ and I think that the MET China exhibition also influenced many designers to bring in little Eastern touches.”

Jacey: “I grew up on my family’s cotton farm in South Texas, ‘Yihaa!’ We’ve been farming for around 175 odd years. I originally studied journalism and held several other jobs before I entered the fashion industry; but it inspires me now and I’m about to release a cotton clothing line in November, ‘Blended by Damsel’, inspired by my family heritage.

I’m typically a neutral dresser, black, white, gray – but I’ll be busting out a cool print or bag or shoes at New York Fashion Week to step outside of the box. I’m looking forward to wearing lots of plaid – I actually got a pair of plaid heels today, that’s how much I love it!”

Dani: “I was inspired by my sister who started her blog about 6 years ago. ‘#sister’. I actually started as an Instagrammer and many of my friends and followers encouraged me to make my own blog. I travel a lot so I love taking photo’s of the scenery, street style, beaches…

I usually wear a lot of men’s wear, over-sized and street wear. I don’t follow the trends. In 10 years from now I hope that I will still be traveling, working with Tourism Boards and Travel Awards, inspire more people to do what they love.”
