Das Stue (“living room” in Danish) is a truly unique place, serving as the first luxury boutique hotel in Berlin. Housed in an elegant 1930’s building right in the city but surrounded by greenery and quiet, this gem of a hotel is like an urban retreat. Inside this magnificent place is a personal, intimate atmosphere where the staff addresses its patrons by name.
Destination Luxury was very fortunate to get to sit down with Alexander Doerr, the General Manager of the hotel, Das Stue in Berlin. With his impressive resume and proven expertise in management and hospitality, he graciously shared with us his insights of being a boutique-sized individual luxury hotel in a large, capital city.
DLX: So we saw that you started your first hotel internship at age 15. What led you to the hotel industry from such a young age?
Alexander Doerr: Actually only one thing: that you’re dealing with a lot of people; not only the guests but also colleagues and peers. This is something that makes it really unique for me. You meet so many different people every day, there’s so many things to do, and it’s never boring – really never, never boring....
In the last few lingering days of summer what could be more tantalizing then finally taking a break from your Summer beach body diets and indulging. This year it took place the last weekend of August and included spotlights dinners and lunches with famed local Chefs including Josh Graves of Faith and Flower, Nancy Silverton of Osteria Mozza, Freddy Vargas of Scarpetta, and fan favorite Zach Pollack of Alimento. In addition the festival spotlighted many national celebrities such as Curtis Stone, Tyler Florence, and Michael Chiarello.
Beautifully curated.
Those are the first words to flow through my head as I reminisce over every moment of my first ever Diner en Blanc in Los Angeles. Over 2,600 people convened in Pershing Square, the epicenter of Downtown, Los Angeles dressed completely in white.
Originating in Paris over 25 years ago, Diner en Blanc has become a globally produced event in the most metropolitan cities in the world. The Destination Luxury team was courteously invited by the title sponsor Celebrity Cruises. Here is a birds eye view inside one of the world's most interesting events.
