Born in Greece, raised in Switzerland and based in the UK, one can see the seedlings of a variegated background in much of designer Athena Procopiou ‘s work. The Central St. Martins graphic design graduate creates multicolored scarves and cover-ups that mine a free-spirited vein, pivoting between the vibrant bohemian pursuits that thread through her spring-summer collections and the resolutely dark, enchanting and otherworldly outlook of the autumn-winter pieces. In the U.S., you can find her wares at places like Barney’s New York and Saks Fifth Avenue. Here, she talked with Destination Luxury about her Top Five.
1. ISLAND LIFE: I have many beloved places around the world…and they are all islands. I just want to live on one, half of the year. The Greek islands are the ones I’m the closest to and I absolutely love the simplicity of life there, the beauty of nature, the color of the sea, the energy, the food and the music.
