Everyone’s had an experience with tequila, whether it was good, bad, or somewhere in between. Some of our favorite drinks are made with it, like the margarita, tequila sunrise, and the paloma. It’s definitely an essential part of our diet, but did you know it could be part of a healthy diet? That’s right, tequila actually has hidden health benefits that you need to know about.

5. It can help with a cold.

In the 1930’s doctors would prescribe cocktails to patients suffering from a cold. It consisted of .5 oz of tequila blanco, .5 oz of agave nectar, and .5 oz of fresh lime juice.

4. It helps lower blood sugar.

We all know that is made from the agave plant, but did you know it also produces a sugar called agavina? Agavina is proven to trigger insulin production and therefore lower your blood sugar.

The same sugars that help lower your blood sugar also lower triglycerides in your system. It acts in the same way fiber does, therefore it helps fight cholesterol.
