INTERIOR - 9 CELEBS WHO INTERIOR DESIGN FANATICS.

Some stars’ interests go beyond the film set and recording studio. All avid fans and followers of designers, furniture makers, and interior trends, these nine celebs could have second careers in the decorative arts—and some of them even do! Read on to see which actors and musicians are hooked on interior design.

ELLEN DEGENERES

  • Ellen Gegeneres and Portia de Rossi at home

Ellen DeGeneres is not only a talented comedienne and host: she’s essentially made buying and decorating gorgeous homes a second career. “I got a very thorough education in mid-20th-century French furniture within the first weeks of our dating,” wife Portia de Rossi describes in an Elle Decor cover story in which their Cliff Fong designed horse ranch was featured. Later this month, DeGeneres is combining her passions by hosting her own HGTV show, Ellen’s Design Challengewhere up-and-coming talents will battle it out in a furniture design competition.

    JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Before his major collaboration with Jay Z and the 20/20 Experience, musician and actor Justin Timberlake collaborated with our own Estee Stanley to curate a home décor line inspired by their previous residential design projects. “I like very clean, almost modern architecture, and the obstacle with something like that is making it extremely warm, because it doesn’t naturally lend itself to that,” Timberlake said in an interview with Stanley and Elle Decor. “With everything we do together, we try to get the juxtaposition right. To make pieces and rooms that are multifaceted, that blend different genres of architecture and design.”

    SOPHIA BUSH

Having worked with Bush, we can attest to the Chicago PD actress’s love of warm, welcoming interiors that tell a story about the homeowner. An avid pinner of interior inspiration and all-around lover of décor, Bush even appeared on our La Cienega Design Quarter panel last year to speak about how the internet has changed interior design. Click here to see what she had to say.

    BRAD PITT

  • Brad Pitt in New Orleans for Make it Right

A lover of architecture—wife Angelina Jolie once took the star on a private tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater house as a birthday present—Brad Pitt formed the Make it Right organization to help rebuild destroyed New Orleans housing following Hurricane Katrina. More recently, the actor has moved into interior decorating by collaborating on a collection with furniture maker Pollaro. The line includes seating, tables, a marble bathtub, and a bed.

    DIANE KEATON

We’ve previously shared that Diane Keaton was a top celebrity pinner to follow for home décor inspiration, but did you also know she’s written several interior design books and is a contributor to Remodelista? Her first book, California Romantica, examines homes in the California Mission and Spanish Colonial styles, while her second publication, House, explores a wider variety of more rustic design and architectural types.

    KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN

Founder of the lifestyle website Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow’s talents go beyond acting and cooking. The actress has proven her keen interest in interiors by opening Goop pop-up boutiques in Los Angeles—in conjunction with designer boutique Nickey Kehoe—and Dallas which feature home goods and decorative gifts. What’s more, the actress purchased the House of Windsor show home, decorated by top designers like Peter Dunham and Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

    ADAM LEVINE

In a feature in Architectural Digest, Adam Levine revealed that when it came to renovating and decorating his Hollywood-area home, he knew exactly what he wanted. “Furnishing a home is no different than going into the studio and making music,” the rocker told the mag. “You want to make sure you’ve pared down all the extra details so that in the end, every stitch has a context uniquely yours.” With designer pieces by the likes of Jean Prouvé and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and art by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, his is a uniquely personal home we’d love to visit.

    ELLEN POMPEO

A frequent fixture on shelter magazine covers, Ellen Pompeo has graced the pages of both Architectural Digest and Elle Decor in homes she designed with Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Having worked on a makeover project with Pompeo ourselves, we know she’s a whiz when it comes to designers and creators, as well as the use of color and importance of texture in interiors.
