Pop-up museums are taking cities by storm from the Museum of Ice Cream to Refinery 29’s 29Rooms. Back in the Bay, the Color Factory has won the hearts of San Franciscans who opt to indulge in their inner child. The building itself is hard to miss with its bursting, warm colors splattered along the outside walls.
Although the museum opened its doors in August, getting tickets is still a challenge as they must be purchased a couple months in advance. The latest round went on sale December 7 for all January and February 2018 dates.
What can someone expect when they arrive at the Color Factory? To start, it’s every Instagram lover’s dream. Taking up 12,000 square feet, the museum comes complete with a wide range of art installations, themed rooms and vibrant shades at every turn. No doubt visitors will have plenty to see. The pop-up experience covers two stories of interactive activities, including the sunshine, yellow room dedicated to a giant ball pit! Other features include a sea of 10,000 ribbons hanging from the ceiling, a confetti room, a purple selfie room and an illustration room where guests can draw on walls using a giant green marker.
The Color Factory’s several displays are a collaborative effort from 13 different contributors and artists. With the help of Jacob Dahlgren, Tom Stayte, Geronimo Balloons, Tosha Stimage, Stanton Jones, Andrew Neyer & Andy J. Miller, Carissa Potter, Jessica Hische, Rebecca Wright, Randi Brookman Harris, Leah Rosenberg and Erin Jang, the museum has captured the hearts of all who step inside.
Open all days but Wednesday from 10:00am until 9:30pm, the Color Factory is a mere two blocks away from Union Square. Whether you’re a passionate photographer looking for your next snapshot or a group of friends in search for another Sunday Funday extravaganza, the Color Factory has exactly what you need for a one of a kind experience.
