Escape rooms can be a fun way to spend an evening with your friends or build better and stronger work teams. But did you know most teams don’t make it out in time? And it isn’t because the people working together aren’t clever enough to do it.

It is because they lack the proper strategies to make it happen. So, to help you figure it out, here are five of the best tricks and tips on how to get out of an escape room.

  1. Pick the Right Team

Picking the right team isn’t just about making sure they are all smart, cause you know all of your friends and colleagues are clever. It is about picking teammates who will keep calm under pressure. After all, if you all start losing you cool with three minutes to go, you will be wasting valuable time instead of using it to your advantage.

You also want to think about team size. Four to six people seems to be the way to go. Enough people to have several working on each task, but not so many that everyone is talking over each other. Whatever you do, don’t try to solve it yourself though as it is next to impossible.

  1. Speak Up If You See Something

Puzzles are often linked to many different objects around the room. So, if you see something with a symbol on it, speak up. There is a chance a teammate saw something else with the same symbol.

If you both speak up, you are more likely to realize these two objects have something to do with how to get of an escape room. This is no time to be quiet. Communication is key.

  1. Use The Clues

While it may seem like a huge ego boost to solve the room without the clues, they are there for a reason. These rooms are specifically designed to trip you up and make getting out difficult. So, if you are stuck on a step for more than about 5 minutes, ask the game master for a clue.

It is important to keep your ego out of the game. Sure, it may be great to solve it without the clues, but the point is to solve it, not to get an ego boost.

  1. Positivity Goes A Long Way

Notice we said positive, not cocky. Being sure you can do, even if there are some setbacks as you play can really help boost morale and make the room way more fun for everyone involved. However, if you are cocky about it, you are far more likely to get mad when you get stuck and spread that frustration to your teammates.

  1. Understand the Rules of the Room

Each room is different. So, make sure you listen and pay attention when you are being told the rules. For example, maybe a certain item shouldn’t be touched and doing so can make it so the game master has to come back in and reset things.

So, pay attention and follow the rules so you don’t lose time.
